# 3D version

With the launch of Merlinchain, the development direction of bitmap.game has also shifted. For the ecosystem to thrive, smart contracts are essential. However, BTC's Layer 1 does not support contracts, or is not very contract-friendly. Many protocols are still in development and have not been widely adopted. Additionally, 2D game worlds inherently lack the immersive experience that 3D worlds provide. Despite the many challenges faced during development, bitmap.game, as the first real-time multiplayer Bitmap app, has made the decision to support contract development on Layer 2 and to focus on 3D development.

The new version of bitmap.game not only provides players with a 3D interactive world, but thanks to Merlinchain, it also brings EVM contract support to a whole new level. Combined with native support for BTC Layer 1, this allows us, for the first time in the BTC space, to fully support assets across both Layer 1 and Layer 2 with seamless transitions. This breakthrough sparks new ideas and demands within the ecosystem.

The new version of [Bitmap.Game](https://bitmap.game) is now in its beta open testing phase. We welcome all developers from the BTC ecosystem and community to join us in this unprecedented transformation.
